Written by R. Figura, a talented Polish playwright and script-writer of a new generation. Since his graduation from Department of Theatre Studies in Warsaw, he has been involved in theatre productions as a writer and director. He has also received numerous awards both for his plays and TV scripts. His TV series Magda M won the best TV Series Award in 2007. Currently he is one of the most recognised TV scriptwriters in Poland, with his scripts reflecting on modern society and its faults in a light and comedy-like style.

Fly Guardian (The First European Drama Award, Bernd Bauer Verlag, Berlin, 1993) is set in an old ramshackle shop, which now is nothing more than a rubbish tip. In the middle of old clothes and broken objects, we see an old man – busy talking to flies. This is his whole life, until a violent, arrogant young man enters the room and challenges him. But The Old, representing experience and wisdom, is stronger. He seems to be omniscient and powerful as God Himself. Unexpectedly, the bond between the two men becomes stronger.

While mainly revolving around the relationship between the Old Man and The Young, Fly Guardian is also a story of two brothers, comparable to the story of Cain and Able. The young, hardened by his term in prison, is trying to escape from both a gang and his older brother (the Medium) who is prepared to kill him for his betrayal of the gang. When they both somehow land in the Old Man’s shop, an interesting turn of events ensues.
